Why Our Steel Is Better
Thickness
"Builders need to stop thinking in terms of gauge and start thinking in terms of actual decimal thickness." - Don Switzer, Steel Dynamics Sales Manager (Rural Builder Magazine - September 2016).
When choosing which steel panel is right for your project it's important to understand how panels are classified. Many compaines boast a thick gauge panel, however guage is not a measurment. In order to verify actual thickness you'll need to measure with a micrometer. A micrometer measures in thousandths of an inch and is the only way to know actual panel thickness. The difference between 26 and 29 gauge is less than the thickness of a sheet of paper. Testing shows this difference is not enough to change the strength properties in a panel.
Pro-Rib .0165" nominal thickness
Premium Pro-Rib and Premium Pro-Snap .018 nominal thickness
Hardness
Many companies sell a 26 gauge panel, but these panels only have a 60,000 p.s.i. tensile strength. Our 28 gauge panels have a 100,000 p.s.i. nominal strength, which has 25% more strength than the thicker panel.
Pro Rib, Premium Pro Rib and Pro Snap are all 100,000 p.s.i. nominal tensile strength.
Hail and Dent resistance is determined by the hardness of the panel. Testing shows hardness delivers the most VALUE to the owners.
Zinc & Paint
Coatings are the most important factor in keeping your panel looking new for years to come.
Pro-Rib has a G-60 and Premium Pro-Rib and Pro-Snap have a G-100 Galvanized Coating plus Zinc Phosphate.
Pro-Rib has a Limited 40 Year Paint Warranty while Premium Pro-Rib and Pro-Snap have a Limited Lifetime Paint Warranty.
MM Steel has the most extensive testing to make sure the metal thickness, tensile strength and coatings are correct.
